Engaging a Garden Designer.

STAGE ONE - INITIAL MEETING
Design Service Options:
1) Consultancy and Advice Service
A written report assessing what horticultural and landscaping improvements could be carried out. Sometimes a half day (£150), or a full day consultancy (£250) may be all that is required at first.
2) New Planting Plans
For a new area, or to refresh tired planting in a garden where the existing hard landscaping is to be retained. I will draw up a detailed planting plan taking into account the existing planting areas, the soil type, and location. Typically starting from £250 for a small urban site. A written quotation will be supplied following initial visit.
Additionally I can source plants, and supervise ground preparation and planting.
3) Full Design Service
A completely new layout for your garden, based on how you wish to use it, and what you want it to look like. A new hard landscaping plan will be drawn up based on the client's intended use of the garden, together with a detailed planting plan.
See process below.

The Full Design Process
Is broken down into several more stages:
STAGE 1 (the initial consultation meeting) will have already taken place, and a design brief taken.
I will write to you following this meeting, confirming the brief and the design fee up to and including Stage 3.
Typically starting from £350 for a small urban site, fees vary depending on individual requirements and the size of the site.
I will also provide an estimate of total project costs for stages 4&5.
STAGE 2 - SITE SURVEY AND ANALYSIS
A detailed site survey and analysis is carried out and a site plan drawn up.
STAGE 3 - CONCEPT PLAN
A concept plan is produced based on the client's brief and initial discussions. This indicates proposed hard landscaping areas, structures, planting areas, features, and outlines how each area is to be used.
A meeting takes place to present the concept plan and discuss it in order for reasonable alterations to be made.

STAGE 4 - GARDEN LAYOUT PLAN & CONSTRUCTION DETAILS
Once the concept plan has been finalised and approved, a full construction plan is drawn, from which a landscaping contractor can cost and build the hard landscaping elements of the garden.
Fees for this stage of the process are as a percentage of final costs on a scale set out by the Society of Garden Designers.
STAGE 5 - PLANTING PLAN
A separate planting plan is drawn specifying all plants to be used and detailing their exact positions for planting.
